about
Following the release of Dog Ate Grapes in late February, the South East London quartet are set to strip off the crunch and slip into something a little more comfortable with horn-laden followup, Half Measures, available on all streaming services from 30th April 2021. The track marks the second of five singles to be released throughout the year, and signifies a shift into the raunchy, soulful side of their collective inspiration.
Written in Ewan’s New Cross home, produced by Younghusband and Cate Le Bon’s Euan Hinshelwood, before getting the Joseph Futak horn production experience, Half Measures feels comfortable cuddled between Whitney and Allen Touissant, under the leopard-print duvet of Ofege’s improvisation.
lyrics
This feels so familiar
(we've been here before),
each direction I turn
there's a lesson to learn.
It's really nice to meet you
(I must be moving on),
now if I choose to go
will this door forever close?
Oh, it's no big deal, no great shame,
cause I've learned from my mistakes.
Oh, I know, it's been hard.
You can't reap life's pleasures,
if you're full of half measures.
Let's try to start over again.
I'd really like to meet her
(she'd like to meet you too),
but she's so far away
and there's nowhere to stay.
If love is not the answer
(then what else can be true),
although it's hard to explain
I won't be seeing you again.
Oh, it's no big deal, no great shame,
cause I've learned from my mistakes.
Oh, I know, it's been hard.
You can't reap life's pleasures,
if you're full of half measures.
Let's try to start over again.
I'd really like to meet her
(she'd like to meet you too),
but she's so far away
and there's nowhere to stay.
If love is not the answer
(then what else can be true),
although it's hard to explain
I won't be seeing you again.
Oh, it's no big deal, no great shame,
cause I've learned from my mistakes.
Oh, I know, it's been hard.
You can't reap life's pleasures,
if you're full of half measures.
Let's try to start over again.
